Seeking for a comprehensive and long term solution to the increasing impact of the environmental water pollution
at the Kingston Harbor mainly due to untreated sewage flows, the Government of Jamaica (GOJ}and
the National Water Commission {NWC) have initiated a three phases BOT program, designated at final stage
to conduct and treat most of Kingston metropolitan sewers with the capacity of more than 90 MGD.
The KMA Sewage project started in May 2005 by implementing Phase I which includes the construction of
Waste Water Treatment Plant (WwTP}AT Soapberry area based upon oxidation ponds system
including secondary and tertiary waste water treatment and also laying of new conduction pipe system for the main
sewers pipes of Kingston city.
Ashtrom is the main contractor executing the works and also a member of the concession group which is designated to operate the sewage facilities for 30 years period.
Phase I is to be completed in April 2007.
